Since I was a little girl, I used my hands to heal. Of course, I didn't know for sure that healing was the work I was doing, but when I knew there was pain, I had to touch - to connect with the hurting person - with the intention to help them feel loved and maybe... just maybe... relief. As I grew, I learned that this was in fact, quite a gift. So as a young adult I decided to do whatever it would take to master this art, and I'm proud to say I haven't stopped. I love learning and expanding my tools and abilities because when I learn, you become more connected, joyful and free. That's enough for me. See below for my full story.

My primary modalities

  • Medical Massage & Bodywork

  • Craniosacral Therapy

  • Maya Abdominal Therapy

  • Prenatal Massage & Bodywork

I started seeing Susannah during my training as a medical student at OHSU. I was recovering from a horrible accident in which I fractured my spine as well as an incompletely healed ankle surgery. My training was stressful with long hours and intense physical demand on the body. I never would have made it through without Susannah’s help. I saw her regularly for four years while I lived in Oregon. She is an extraordinarily gifted healer. She not only helped me recover from physical injury and chronic pain, but showed me how to intuit a connection with my body that I never would have discovered otherwise.

I started my healing journey over 20 years ago in New Mexico.

Once again, pain took over my life. I could barely stand without shooting pain that took my breath away. I had started having pain and numbness in my legs and low back when I was about 14 years old. My family did not know how to help me or support me in dealing with this, frankly they didn’t believe me and it felt terrible. I focused on being healthy, working out, running, eating right, and hoped for the best, trying to avoid the pain. When that lightning rod of pain seared through my body yet again, in my early 20’s, I knew I had to be open to unconventional approaches to change this. And I had to change this. I was referred to a Chiropractor and NeuroMuscular Therapist (NMT - a specific medical massage modality practiced by Licensed Massage Therapists.) by a friend.

The work I received from these two practitioners SAVED MY LIFE and woke me up to the wisdom of my body.

Shortly thereafter I was ready for a career change. I was fascinated by bodywork since I had witnessed first hand the change that could be made. I decided to go to Massage School. I soon learned that I am a kinesthetic learner and felt like I was in the right learning environment for myself for the first time.

I came from a medical family in a small town in Texas. So I started my massage journey focused on Medical Massage. It was my comfort zone and I mentored for several years in injury rehabilitation massage and billing.

I was inspired by the learning opportunities available when I moved to Portland, OR in 2011. I started learning everything I could afford. My skills and awareness had grown so much from years of working with bodies full time. I started exploring and understanding fascia, delving deep into modalities that worked with it. I focused heavily on women’s health issues and worked in places where I could practice specialized work. It’s been years now and I can say with satisfaction and clarity that everything I do integrates fascia and applies to women’s health.

My gifts lie in more complex body questions. I love helping people reconnect to their own bodies and find their inner source of guidance. I love working towards solutions together, not the fairly standard passive massage model. I still do relaxing and therapeutic massage sessions (hello Deep Alignment Massage), but I’m aware of greater opportunities for healing and I use those approaches to invite people into experiencing fascia focused bodywork or as tools for integration.

I’ve way more education than I’ve listed here. It’s all filtered through me and been part of my process. There’s just too many to list independently but they’ve collectively changed the way I see the body, work with the body and see myself as a healing practitioner.

My work has also been supported by further experience including my bachelor's degree in interpersonal communication, Labor Doula training and work, hypnotherapy certification, study of the enneagram, chakra system, food as medicine based nutrition, and my personal fitness & movement practices.

I live in the inner southeast of Portland with my partner and two dogs. I find my peace by getting out into nature for long walks, creating art and by cooking beautiful nourishing food for people I love.

“I started seeing Susannah 8 years ago because I had a herniated disc which caused tension in my neck and shoulders, but the consistency of working together has eliminated pain, and now allowed us to focus on holistic bodywork. She’s uncovered and resolved issues in my feet, calves, hips and lower back. I really appreciate the time she takes to treat me as an individual and address things that are specific to my body, not a one-size-fits-all’ approach that many other massage therapists take. Plus, I always look forward to my appointments with her because she makes me feel so comfortable and welcome. ”
